Illegal Immigration Soars to New Heights: Third Highest in 97 Years

One of the major highlights of Biden’s administration is the border crisis. Unlike his predecessor, Biden doesn’t look like he has any idea on how to keep our borders in check. His inaction has led to illegal immigrants overwhelming Border Patrol.

Now, a report says federal law enforcement stopped close to two million people from illegally entering the country over the last year. On Friday, US Customs and Border Protection released data of illegal immigrants barred from gaining entry into the country. The number stands at 1,956,519.

These people tried to gain entry into the country by walking from across Mexico or Canada, entering through Pacific or Atlantic coasts, and coming through land or seaport.

However, the Border Patrol working the land between the different ports of entry in the country stopped 1.66 million of the 1.9 million trying to gain access into the country. Besides, the records show this is one of the highest numbers of migrants trying to gain entry into the country in the last 100 years.

    History in Numbers

In the fiscal year 2020, officials at the border came in contact with 646,822 people illegally trying to enter the country. 2019 fiscal year also saw 1,148,024 people detained for attempting to enter the country illegally.

Moreover, both Republicans and Democrats declared there was a crisis at the southern border in 2019. For 2017, officials encountered 526,901 illegal immigrants. In the last 12 months, US Border Patrol apprehended and turned back 1.66 million people trying to illegally gain entry into the country.

This is the third highest in the history of the country. In 1986, Border Patrol stopped 1,692,544 from entering the country, and 1,676,438 in 2000.

Besides, nobody can ascertain the number of people who tried to cross the border, as it is inevitable some will successfully evade Border Patrol. In light of this, there’s a belief hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants might have successfully entered the country.

    Biden Brought This on America

The Mexican border happens to be where Border Patrol officials encounter most illegal immigrants. In the last ten years, an average of 30,000 to 50,000 illegal immigrants were encountered at the southern border each and every month. However, at the start of the COVID pandemic, the number dropped to 20,000.

One of the reasons for the reduced number is Trump ordered any family, adult, or child who illegally crossed the border be turned back to their home country, instead of being detained. However, the number has now increased to 70,000 per month since Biden took over.

The president rescinded Trump’s order. He said children who show up at the border alone should not be turned back. Instead, they should be taken into US custody. In light of this, more children started showing up at the border than at any other time in America’s history.
