Seattle Suspect FREED After Brutal Attack on 77-Year-Old…

A vicious assault on a 77-year-old Seattle man left him hospitalized for a week with a broken arm, broken knee, and facial injuries—yet one suspect walked free from jail before his bail hearing while the other remains unidentified and at large.

Surveillance Footage Captures Savage Attack

Seattle police released surveillance video from the city’s Real Time Crime Center showing two men attacking the elderly victim at Pike Street on April 19. The footage shows the assailants shoving the helpless man to the ground and repeatedly striking him. Not a single bystander stopped to help as the victim remained hunched on the pavement, unable to stand. The attackers casually walked to a nearby McDonald’s as if nothing happened.

Suspect Released Despite Serious Charges

Police arrested 29-year-old Ahmed Abdullahi Osman of Bellevue and charged him with second-degree assault. According to the police report, the victim had just gotten off a bus when the unprovoked attack occurred. Officers booked Osman into jail the night of the assault, but he was released before a bail hearing while investigators continued their work. An arrest warrant wasn’t issued until April 30—eleven days after the attack. Prosecutors requested $200,000 bail, but Osman remains free pending arrest on the outstanding warrant.

Second Attacker Still Unidentified

The second suspect captured on surveillance video has not been arrested. Seattle police continue searching for the accomplice who participated in the brutal assault. The victim spent at least one week hospitalized recovering from his injuries. Mayor Katie Wilson has criticized the public release of such surveillance footage, despite its potential value in identifying suspects and warning the public about violent criminals operating freely in downtown Seattle.

Questions About Criminal Justice Response

The case highlights ongoing concerns about Seattle’s approach to violent crime and pre-trial detention policies. Both suspects connected to a felony assault that left an elderly victim severely injured remain on the streets. The decision to release Osman before his bail hearing, combined with the delay in issuing an arrest warrant, has raised questions about whether the system adequately protects vulnerable residents from violent offenders in one of America’s most progressive cities.
