Mace Files Resolution to EXPEL GOP Rep. Mills—Ethics Probe

South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace filed an expulsion resolution targeting Florida Republican Cory Mills, escalating internal GOP tensions over ongoing ethics investigations into sexual misconduct allegations and campaign finance violations…

Ethics Committee Investigation Triggers Expulsion Push

Mills faces scrutiny from the House Ethics Committee following accusations of sexual misconduct, dating violence, and campaign finance violations. He has consistently denied all wrongdoing. While several Democrats previously called for expulsion, Mace became the first Republican to formally introduce expulsion legislation. She announced the measure Monday evening after previous censure attempts stalled when both parties blocked action by referring the matter to the Ethics Committee in November.

Mace released a statement declaring the congressional establishment has protected Mills far too long. She emphasized her determination despite earlier setbacks, stating efforts to censure Mills and strip committee assignments met resistance from both parties. Mills responded on social media, appearing to welcome a floor vote by challenging Mace to call it forward. He suggested allegations alone do not constitute due process, contrasting his situation with recent resignations.

Speaker Johnson Opposes Republican Infighting

House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed disapproval Monday night, telling reporters he does not encourage Republicans pursuing expulsion actions against colleagues. Johnson emphasized the Ethics Committee ensures proper due process for members facing allegations. Mills distinguished his case from former Reps. Eric Swalwell and Tony Gonzales, who resigned last week amid bipartisan expulsion pressure over sexual misconduct involving staffers. Mills noted he remains unmarried and received no harassment complaints from Hill staffers or interns.

Pattern of Legal Controversies Shadows Mills

Mills experienced multiple legal incidents recently. Washington D.C. police opened an assault investigation in February 2025 following reports at a building associated with him, though no charges materialized. A Florida judge issued a restraining order last October after his ex-girlfriend accused him of threatening and harassing behavior related to dating violence. The Ethics Committee scheduled a Tuesday recommendation for Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who faces 25 violations including accusations of stealing five million dollars in federal relief funds for campaign purposes. Both Mills and Cherfilus-McCormick maintain their innocence as congressional pressure intensifies.
