GOP Senators Defect to Dems to Pass Gay Marriage Protection Law

A dozen Republican US senators have defected to the other side of the aisle as they have backed the Democrats’ push to overcome the filibuster and pass a federal law to “protect same-sex marriage,” aptly named by its sponsors the “Respect for Marriage Act.”

Democrat Rush for Lame-Duck Passage

An updated version of the draft Respect for Marriage Act was passed on Wednesday by the US Senate with 62 votes in favor as 12 GOP senators defied their own party and helped the Democrats overcome the 60-vote threshold that they needed.

The vote was part of a final push by the Democratic Party to pass the codification of gay marriage into federal law while they are still in control of bother chambers of the US Congress – as the Republicans seized the US House of Representatives by a slim majority in last week’s midterm elections.

The current lame-duck US House of Representatives is also expected to approve the “Respect for Marriage Act” in a vote that would likely take place after Thanksgiving, The Daily Mail reported.

Besides same-sex marriage, the new draft law technically approved by the US Senate with bipartisan support also contains clauses on defending interracial marriage.

The Democrat push to use their majorities in the lame-duck Congress came as a growing number of leftists are worried the conservative-dominated US Supreme Court could decide to overturn its 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling which said bans on gay marriage were unconstitutional.

The leftist believe SCOTUS could replicate its pattern from its June 2022 ruling in Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which struck down the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling, and once again made abortion eligible to state bans.

Because of the June ruling, President Joe “Empty Shelves” Biden and the Democrats have been raising hue and cry over “reproductive rights,” which is their euphemism for the cold-blooded brutal murder of unborn infants, also known as abortion.

‘Love Is Love,’ Says Abortion Joe

Seeking to shock and scare the American public, Marxist-Communist Democrats have been claiming that not only gay marriage but also even interracial marriage is threated by SCOTUS.

They based their misgivings on a legal opinion by conservative SCOTUS Justice Clarence Thomas stating that same-sex marriage and contraception could be reconsidered as legal rights after the abortion ruling.

The 37 Senate Republicans who voted against the “Respect for Marriage Act” argued that there was no need for such a law since the Obergefell ruling had been “settled into law,” and there was no way it could be overturned.

GOP US Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin accused the Democrats of using the situation to “create a state of fear” over a non-issue.

President Joe Biden, however, dubbed “Abortion Joe” by anti-abortionism activists, celebrated the Senate’s passage of the “Respect for Marriage Act” by insisting that “love is love.”

Biden argued that all Americans deserved the “right to marry” whoever they loved.

A previous draft of the gay marriage bill was approved by the US House of Representatives over the summer, with 47 House Republicans defecting to the Democrats to support it.
