Actor’s Quiet Fight ENDS At Age 42

Alex Duong, a television actor recognized for his recurring role on the police drama Blue Bloods, passed away Saturday morning at age 42 following a year-long battle with an aggressive form of cancer, according to updates shared on a fundraising page established to support his medical treatment.

A Sudden and Aggressive Diagnosis

Duong received his diagnosis of alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma after experiencing what initially seemed like a routine headache behind his eyes at the start of last year. The condition rapidly progressed, causing his left eye to bulge noticeably enough that his employer sent him home from work. Medical examination revealed a tumor blocking blood flow to his optic nerve, which doctors classified as extremely aggressive following a biopsy. This rare soft-tissue cancer typically affects children, though the alveolar type strikes patients across all age groups with equal frequency.

Hilarie Steele, who organized the fundraising campaign, announced the actor’s death in an update posted Saturday. She wrote that Duong passed peacefully, surrounded by close friends, and was no longer in pain. His wife Christina and young daughter Everest visited him the night before his death, when he remained alert enough to say goodbye to his daughter. Steele noted the family feels devastated but grateful for the overwhelming support they received throughout his illness. Duong had entered septic shock Friday, just one day before his death, marking a rapid deterioration in his condition.

Career in Television

Throughout his career, Duong built a solid resume of television appearances spanning multiple popular series. He portrayed Sonny Le on Blue Bloods from 2021 through 2024, appearing in the long-running CBS police procedural during its final seasons. His additional credits included roles on Pretty Little Liars, The Young and the Restless, and the reboot of 90210, among numerous other productions. His work demonstrated versatility across drama genres, from soap operas to mystery series.

Remembering a Devoted Father

Friends and family emphasized Duong’s dedication to his daughter Everest, whom he treasured deeply since her birth. The fundraising page established in his name reflected the community support rallying around his family during the challenging treatment period. His passing leaves behind his wife and young daughter, along with colleagues from the entertainment industry who worked alongside him throughout his television career. The family has asked for continued prayers and support as they navigate this difficult time.
